Charlotte’s Web

Story Summary

The story took place in a farm. It is mainly about a friendship between a PIG (Wilbur) and a SPIDER (Charlotte). Wilbur, a spring pig, who is supposed to be killed at Chirstmastime. He luckily avoided death with the help of Charlotte and some friendly animals. Charlotte impressed the people in the farm by weaving words that describe Wilbur on her web.(those words are: “SOME PIG”,”TERRIFIC”, “RADIANT”, and“HUMBLE”) Through several times of efforts, Wilbur survived. Even though Charlotte died at the end, but their friendship would never be forgotten.

Person Feeling and Thoughts

I think this book has two points: the first one is about Fern, a girl who has a loving care heart towards animals. She treated animals like human beings. My favorite line of her is: “The pig couldn’t help being small. If I had been very small at birth, would you have killed me?” It shows that every animal on earth has the same right to live. Men can not decide their fate.

The second one is about the friendship between Wilbur and Charlotte. I think the author was trying to tell people that: even animals can have such unbreakable friendship, so can human. Nowadays, many people make friends through the generosity of spending money - so called fair-weather friends. When one’s rich or power, he seems to have friends everywhere; but when desperate time comes, those friends would get their selves out of him at once. This book tells what real friendships are.

Recommendation for the book

Charlotte’s Web has friendship, love and caring. It expresses them in a special and creative way, that is---through animals. Through animals’ eyes, I see a different kind of word.
